Cam Ward

Ward was born Cameron Anthony Ward in West Columbia, Texas. He is the son of Calvin and Patrice Ward, and he has two older sisters, Aaliyah and Chantel. Patrice is a retired special education teacher and former head basketball coach at Columbia High School, while Aaliyah later became the school's head basketball coach. Chantel competed in track and field and became an assistant coach at Houston Christian.

Ward is a Christian. His football family includes his younger maternal cousin Kyron Drones, a quarterback, and his older cousins Quandre Diggs and Quentin Jammer, both of whom played in the NFL.

Ward played football and basketball at Columbia High School. He threw for more than 1,000 yards during both his junior and senior seasons, helped Columbia become a 2019 co-district champion with a 9-1 record, and earned first-team all-district honors as a quarterback. He was also a two-time all-district basketball MVP and finished as the program's all-time leading scorer.

He entered college at Incarnate Word as a zero-star recruit and became the Cardinals' starting quarterback during the spring 2020 season, which had been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In six games, he threw for 2,260 yards and an FCS-leading 24 touchdowns against four interceptions, winning the Jerry Rice Award as the top FCS freshman. In 2021, he passed for 4,648 yards and 47 touchdowns, led Incarnate Word to the Southland Conference championship and a 10-3 record, and won Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

Ward transferred to Washington State after the 2021 season and started all 25 of his games with the Cougars. He passed for 3,231 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2022, then followed with 3,732 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2023. Across his two seasons, he totaled 6,963 passing yards, 48 passing touchdowns and 13 rushing touchdowns.

Ward transferred to Miami for the 2024 season and led the Hurricanes to a 10-2 regular-season record. He set Miami single-season records with 4,313 passing yards, 39 touchdown passes and a 67.2 percent completion rate. He became the first player in program history to win ACC Player of the Year, won the Davey O'Brien Award and Manning Award, earned consensus first-team All-American honors, and was one of four Heisman Trophy finalists. Three touchdown passes in the Pop-Tarts Bowl against Iowa State gave him 158 combined FCS and FBS career touchdown passes, an all-time Division I record.

The Tennessee Titans selected Ward first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. He became the franchise's third first overall selection and the first zero-star recruit selected first overall in the 21st century. He also became the third Miami player to be chosen first overall, following Russell Maryland and Vinny Testaverde.

Ward started all 17 games as a rookie and threw for 3,169 yards and 15 touchdowns. He set Titans rookie records for games started, pass attempts and passing yards, becoming the first rookie in team history to throw for more than 3,000 yards. During the season, he was featured in Netflix's Quarterback, becoming the first rookie to appear on the program.
