Chris Godwin

Godwin married his high school sweetheart, Mariah DelPercio, in 2021, and the couple has a son named Ace. He is the son of Lisa Godwin and the late Rod Godwin Sr., and grew up with three siblings: Marcus, Sharhonda, and Rian. In June 2025, Godwin announced that he would wear "Godwin Jr." on the back of his jersey to honor his late father.

In 2019, Godwin and his wife launched the Team Godwin Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing financial assistance and advocacy for shelter pets and rescue groups. His philanthropic efforts have included pledging donations for every reception to fund animal rescues, sponsoring service dogs for military veterans through K9s For Warriors, and raising relief funds for animals affected by natural disasters.

Godwin attended Middletown High School in Delaware, where he helped lead the football team to two state championships. As a senior, he set a Delaware prep record with 18 touchdown receptions and was named the Delaware Gatorade Player of the Year. Rated as a four-star recruit and the top prospect in Delaware, he committed to Penn State University.

At Penn State from 2014 to 2016, Godwin caught 153 passes for 2,404 yards and 18 touchdowns across 40 games. As a sophomore in 2015, he recorded 1,101 receiving yards, becoming only the third receiver in school history to reach 1,000 receiving yards in a single season. In his final collegiate game at the 2017 Rose Bowl, he set a Penn State bowl record by catching nine passes for 187 yards and two touchdowns against USC before declaring for the NFL draft.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Godwin in the third round with the 84th overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft. He enjoyed a breakout season in 2019 under head coach Bruce Arians, posting 86 receptions for 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns to earn his first Pro Bowl selection and a Second-team All-Pro nod. That year, Godwin and teammate Mike Evans became the first wide receiver duo in NFL history to each record three games with at least 150 receiving yards in the same season.

Prior to the 2020 campaign, Godwin gave up his jersey number 12 to newly signed quarterback Tom Brady and switched to number 14. Despite missing time during the regular season with multiple injuries, he recorded 840 receiving yards and played a key role throughout the postseason. He caught a touchdown in the Wild Card Round against the Washington Football Team and recorded 110 receiving yards in the NFC Championship against the Green Bay Packers, helping lead Tampa Bay to a 31-9 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.

During a Week 13 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, Godwin set a Buccaneers franchise single-game record by hauling in 15 receptions for 143 yards. He followed with a career-high 104 receptions in 2022, representing the second-highest single-season total in team history. From 2021 through 2023, Godwin and Evans formed the only receiving tandem in the NFL to post three consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards.

Godwin signed multiple long-term contract extensions with Tampa Bay, including a three-year deal in 2022 and another three-year extension in March 2025. Over his career with the team, he climbed to second in franchise history in career receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns.
