Jennie Kim is a South Korean singer and K-pop idol known for performing with BLACKPINK and for her solo single "Solo." She has also appeared as Dyanne in the HBO series The Idol.

Family and upbringing

Jennie was born in Cheongdam-dong, South Korea, and grew up in Auckland, New Zealand, until her high-school years. She later moved back to South Korea and settled in Seoul.

She is an only child. Her mother is described as a director and shareholder of CJ E&M, while her father owns a hospital.

Training and BLACKPINK debut

Jennie joined YG Entertainment as a trainee in August 2010, when she was 14. Before BLACKPINK debuted, she collaborated with other YG artists and appeared in G-Dragon's music video for "That XX". She also contributed to his single "Black."

BLACKPINK released its debut EP, Square One, on August 8, 2016. The group made its performance debut on August 14, 2016, on SBS's Inkigayo. Jennie speaks Korean, English and Japanese.

Solo music and collaborations

Jennie released the solo single "Solo" in 2018, marking her first solo music-video release. She was also featured on Lee Hi's "Special" and Seungri's "GG Be."

Her later credits include "One of the Girls" with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, as well as the 2024 single "Mantra" and the collaboration "Spot!" with Zico.

Acting in The Idol

In 2023, Jennie joined the cast of the HBO television series The Idol. She played Dyanne under the credited name Jennie Ruby Jane.
