Myles Garrett

Garrett was born to Audrey and Lawrence Garrett in Arlington, Texas, and grew up in an athletic family. His older half-brother, Sean Williams, was a college basketball standout at Boston College before being selected 17th overall in the 2007 NBA draft by the New Jersey Nets. His older sister, Brea Garrett, competed in track and field at Texas A&M, where she won the 2014 NCAA title in the 20-pound weight throw.

Outside of football, Garrett writes poetry and has worked on a children's book about dinosaurs. In October 2023, he expanded his business interests by purchasing a minority ownership stake in the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers, also serving as an ambassador for the organization. In late 2025, Garrett confirmed his relationship with Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Chloe Kim.

Garrett attended Martin High School in Arlington, Texas, lettering in football, basketball, and track. As a senior, he posted 19.5 sacks and received the 2013 Landry Award as the top high school player in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Rated as a five-star recruit and the top defensive end in the country, he committed to Texas A&M University.

As a true freshman in 2014, Garrett broke Jadeveon Clowney's Southeastern Conference freshman record by recording 11.5 sacks. During his 2015 sophomore campaign, he led the SEC with 12.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss, winning the Bill Willis Trophy as the nation's top defensive lineman. Despite missing playing time due to a high-ankle sprain in his 2016 junior year, he finished with 8.5 sacks and earned unanimous first-team All-American honors before entering the NFL draft.

The Cleveland Browns selected Garrett with the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, making him the highest-drafted player in Texas A&M history. He made an immediate impact in his professional debut against the New York Jets, recording two sacks, including one on his first career defensive snap. He quickly became the centerpiece of Cleveland's defense, earning PFWA All-Rookie Team honors and reaching his first Pro Bowl in 2018.

Garrett was named AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year for the 2023 season after anchoring the league's top-ranked defense. During the 2025 season, he recorded 23 sacks, breaking the NFL single-season sack record of 22.5 previously shared by Michael Strahan and T. J. Watt. His record-setting season earned him a second Defensive Player of the Year award, making him just the second player in NFL history, alongside J. J. Watt, to win the award by unanimous vote.

In June 2026, the Browns traded Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for defensive end Jared Verse and three future draft picks. Following the trade, Garrett agreed to a restructured five-year contract with Los Angeles. He continued wearing jersey number 95 with the Rams, which had previously belonged to defensive tackle Poona Ford.
