Harrison describes himself as pansexual, polyamorous, and sexually fluid. He frequently incorporates dresses and gender-nonconforming fashion into his stage performances and public appearances, expressing that challenging conventional presentation brings him confidence.

He was in a relationship with American singer Halsey for several months in 2019 before the pair separated, later stating they functioned better as friends. In 2021, he began dating American singer and fashion designer Jesse Jo Stark.

Harrison has spoken publicly regarding his mental health, addressing his battles with insomnia and discussing previous suicide attempts during turbulent periods in his career. His openness about these topics has become a central part of his connection with his fanbase, known as the Black Hearts Club.

Dominic Richard Harrison was born on 5 August 1997 in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England, to Samantha and Justin Harrison. He grew up alongside two younger sisters, Jemima and Isobel. Music was a significant presence in his household; his father worked as a vintage guitar dealer and his grandfather, Rick Harrison, performed with the 1970s glam rock band T. Rex.

Harrison was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) at an early age. His high energy and lack of structured support led to difficulties in traditional schooling, including an incident where he was suspended from Ackworth School after mooning a mathematics teacher on a dare.

Before focusing entirely on music, Harrison trained at the Arts Educational Schools in London. During this period, he worked professionally as an actor, appearing in an episode of the soap opera Emmerdale in 2015 and starring as Oz in the Disney UK television series The Lodge in 2016.

Adopting the stage name Yungblud as a play on the phrase "young blood" due to being the youngest artist on his management's roster, Harrison released his debut single, "King Charles", in April 2017. He followed it with singles addressing complex themes, such as "I Love You, Will You Marry Me" and "Tin Pan Boy". In early 2018, he compiled these tracks into his self-titled debut EP, which also featured "Polygraph Eyes", a song written from a male perspective addressing sexual assault and consent.

In July 2018, Yungblud released his debut studio album, 21st Century Liability, through Locomotion and Geffen Records. The record established his genre-blending sound across rock, punk, and rap. Following the release, he joined the 2018 Vans Warped Tour in the United States and launched international headline tours across North America and Europe.

In 2019, Yungblud gained widespread commercial momentum through major collaborative singles. He teamed up with Halsey and Travis Barker for the hit single "11 Minutes" and joined Machine Gun Kelly and Barker on the platinum-certified rock track "I Think I'm Okay". That October, he issued his second EP, The Underrated Youth, which featured "Original Me" alongside Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons and earned an NME Award for Best Music Video.

His second studio album, Weird!, was released in December 2020 and debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he created The Yungblud Show on YouTube to perform live music and interact with fans virtually. In early 2021, his cover of David Bowie's "Life on Mars?" was selected by NASA to accompany the livestream coverage of the Perseverance rover landing on Mars.

Yungblud's self-titled third studio album arrived in September 2022 and earned him his second consecutive UK number-one album. The record featured singles such as "The Funeral", whose music video featured Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, and "Tissues", which officially sampled the Cure's 1985 track "Close to Me".

In 2024, Yungblud expanded into anime soundtracks with the release of "Abyss", the opening theme for the series Kaiju No. 8. In June 2025, he released his fourth studio album, Idols, preceded by singles such as "Hello Heaven, Hello" and "Zombie", the latter featuring a music video starring actress Florence Pugh.

Harrison developed a close personal and professional mentorship with rock singer Ozzy Osbourne. In July 2025, Yungblud performed a cover of Black Sabbath's "Changes" at Osbourne's farewell concert at Villa Park, later releasing the live performance as a charity single benefiting children's hospices and Parkinson's research. The recording earned him a Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance. In late 2025, he also collaborated with Aerosmith on the joint EP One More Time.

Throughout his career, Yungblud has engaged in public activism. He has participated in demonstrations including March for Our Lives and Black Lives Matter protests, and has spoken publicly from the stage in support of reproductive rights, transgender youth, and human rights movements in Iran.
