LA Knight

Shaun Ricker was born in Hagerstown, Maryland, and grew up as the youngest of three children. He started watching professional wrestling at the age of three. At North Hagerstown High School, he ran track and played in the school band. He moved to Cincinnati at age 20 to train for the ring, supporting himself with shifts at a lumber mill and a Ruby Tuesday restaurant.

Ricker has been in a relationship with fitness model Michelle Yavulla since 2018. The couple lives in Orlando, Florida. In August 2023, he threw out the ceremonial first pitch at a New York Mets game. The city of Hagerstown honored him with the Key to the City in December 2023.

Ricker entered professional wrestling in 2003 under the ring name Deuce in Ohio's Heartland Wrestling Association. He won the HWA Television Championship the following year. In 2010, he relocated to California and joined Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. He formed a tag team called The Natural Selection with Brian Cage, holding the NWA Heritage Tag Team Championship for more than 200 days. He capped his run there in May 2013 by winning the 30-Man Red Carpet Rumble for the CWFH Heritage Heavyweight Championship.

Sporadic WWE extra work eventually led to a developmental contract in 2013. Assigned to NXT under the name Slate Randall, he debuted with a victory over Yoshi Tatsu. The momentum did not last. WWE utilized him primarily as enhancement talent, and the promotion released him in August 2014.

Ricker adopted the moniker Eli Drake and signed with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in early 2015. He debuted alongside Drew Galloway and Micah in a faction called The Rising. When the group dissolved, Drake turned heel and feuded with Galloway. He captured the TNA King of the Mountain Championship in 2016 and hosted an interview segment called Fact of Life.

His crowning moment came in August 2017. Entering at number two in a 20-man gauntlet match, Drake won the vacant Impact Global Championship. The reign lasted 146 days across multiple defenses against Johnny Impact, Matt Sydal, and Alberto El Patron. In April 2018, he teamed with veteran Scott Steiner to win the Impact World Tag Team Championship. Drake left the promotion in 2019, followed by a stint in the NWA where he captured the NWA World Tag Team Championship with James Storm.

Ricker re-signed with WWE in February 2021, debuting at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day as LA Knight. He feuded with Cameron Grimes and secured the Million Dollar Championship in a ladder match at TakeOver: In Your House. After moving to the main roster in 2022, WWE briefly repackaged him as talent agent Max Dupri, head of the Maximum Male Models faction. The character lasted five months. Knight rejected the gimmick in October 2022, returned to his brash persona, and found immediate footing with fans.

Fan support surged in 2023 during a televised program with Bray Wyatt. Crowds began echoing his catchphrases at every venue. He won the Slim Jim Battle Royal at SummerSlam 2023 and teamed with John Cena to defeat The Bloodline at Fastlane. At SummerSlam 2024, Knight defeated Logan Paul to win his first WWE United States Championship. He reclaimed the title from Shinsuke Nakamura in March 2025.

Outside the squared circle, Ricker has worked in television and gaming. He competed on the Dwayne Johnson-hosted TNT reality series The Hero in 2013. Two years later, he appeared on Brooklyn Nine-Nine as a bodybuilder getting married in a gym. He filmed scenes for the fourth season of Netflix's GLOW prior to the series being halted.

Ricker contributed heavily to the WWE 2K video game franchise behind the scenes. He performed motion capture for multiple roster members across several editions and provided the voice for Paragon Jay Pierce in the MyRise mode of WWE 2K22.
