Joshua Xavier Gutiérrez Alonso was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and spent his upbringing split between Phoenix and Nogales, Sonora. He was raised in a musical family by his parents, Fabio Gutiérrez and Rubí Alonso González, and grew up as the second of six siblings alongside Fabio, Chris, Leila, Mia, and Oscar. His brother Fabio Capri also pursued music, and the two later recorded the collaborative track "Tu Casi Algo".

Gutierrez began playing the guitar at age ten and started composing his own original songs at age twelve. His early musical style drew inspiration from Latin pop groups such as Camila and Sin Bandera, helping establish the romantic lyricism that later defined his songwriting.

Gutierrez started his commercial music career in 2020 by releasing his debut single, "Vete Ya", through Baga Music. After sharing independent releases online, he gained wider attention when his track "Amigos con Derecho" went viral, leading to a recording deal with Interscope Records.

Shortly after signing the contract, Gutierrez was involved in a severe car crash that caused facial and skull fractures. Medical specialists initially warned that his injuries might prevent him from singing again. While recovering in the hospital, he filmed videos of himself singing and playing guitar from his bed, ultimately making a complete recovery and returning to recording.

Following his recovery in 2022, Gutierrez shifted his musical focus to tumbados románticos, merging traditional corridos tumbados instrumentation with themes centered on love and heartbreak. In May 2023, he released his debut EP, My Mom's Playlist, which featured covers of popular Latin songs such as Maná's "Rayando el Sol".

In August 2023, he released "La Víctima", which became a viral sensation on TikTok and propelled him onto the Billboard Hot Latin Songs and Billboard Hot 100 charts. He followed this success with key collaborations, including "Poco a Poco" with Los Dareyes de la Sierra and "Modo DND" with Tony Aguirre.

In December 2023, Gutierrez released the single "La Diabla", which reached number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. The track also climbed to number one on Spotify's Global chart, where it established a record as the longest-running number-one Latin song on the platform.

In 2024, Gutierrez embarked on his first headlining concert tour, the Poco a Poco Tour, performing dates in Mexico and across the Western United States. That same year, he won two awards at the Premios Juventud, taking home honors for New Generation in Regional Mexican Music and Best Regional Mexican Song for "La Diabla".

In October 2024, he released his debut studio album, Next, under Interscope Records. The album brought together his hit singles with new material and achieved critical acclaim, placing at number 77 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Albums of 2024.
