Romeo Santos

Romeo Santos is married to Dominican influencer Francelys Infante, whom he has been with since before their relationship became public in 2023. They have four children together, and Santos also has a son, Alex Damian, who was born in 2002, bringing the total number of his children to five.

Santos has said that he initially struggled with the circumstances surrounding Alex Damian's birth and became part of his son's life two years later. He and Infante have generally kept their family life private, although she appeared in the music video for "Solo Conmigo," which revealed that they were expecting their fourth child together. Santos later introduced his daughter publicly in a birthday post.

Santos began singing in a church choir as a child and formed a group with his cousin Henry Santos and friends Lenny Santos and Max Santos. First known as Los Tinellers, the group was later renamed Aventura after working with manager Julio César García. Aventura signed with Premium Latin Music in 1998 and released Generation Next in 1999.

The band's 2002 album We Broke the Rules and its single "Obsesión" transformed Aventura into an internationally successful Latin group. The song topped charts in France, Germany, and Italy, including a 16-week run at number one in Italy. Santos served as the band's lead singer, songwriter, and co-producer, while Aventura combined bachata with R&B, hip-hop, pop, reggae, and rock.

Aventura became the first bachata act to sell out Madison Square Garden in 2007. The group also performed for President Barack Obama at the White House in 2009 before taking a hiatus in 2011. Its members later reunited for concerts in 2016 and for subsequent tours, including the Cerrando Ciclos tour.

Santos left Aventura in 2011 and signed with Sony Music Latin. His first solo single, "You," reached number one on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs and Tropical Songs charts. His debut album, Formula, Vol. 1, followed that year and included "Promise," a collaboration with Usher that also topped Latin and tropical charts.

He released Formula, Vol. 2 in 2014. The album featured Drake, Nicki Minaj, Marc Anthony, Carlos Santana, Tego Calderón, and Kevin Hart, and became the best-selling Latin album of that year. Its singles included "Propuesta Indecente" and "Odio." "Odio," featuring Drake, became Drake's first song sung in Spanish, while "Propuesta Indecente" became one of the strongest-performing Latin songs on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart.

His later albums expanded his collaborations and focus on bachata. Golden was released in 2017 and included Juan Luis Guerra, Ozuna, Nicky Jam, Daddy Yankee, Julio Iglesias, and Jessie Reyez. Utopía, released in 2019, brought together established bachata performers including Luis Vargas, Raulin Rodriguez, Frank Reyes, and Anthony "El Mayimbe" Santos. Formula, Vol. 3 followed in 2022 and won Best Merengue/Bachata Album at the 2023 Latin Grammys, his first win at the ceremony.

Santos has repeatedly set attendance records as a solo performer. He sold out three consecutive nights at Madison Square Garden in 2012, released The King Stays King: Sold Out at Madison Square Garden from those performances, and sold out a double-header at Yankee Stadium in 2014. He was the first Latin artist to headline Yankee Stadium.

In 2019, Santos became the first Latin artist to sell out MetLife Stadium. The concert brought together performers from Utopía, including members of Aventura, and was later released as the concert film and live album Utopía Live from MetLife Stadium. He also sold out four nights at Peru's National Stadium in 2023, nine nights at Santiago's Movistar Arena, and two nights at Puerto Rico's Hiram Bithorn Stadium.

His screen work includes a cameo as himself in the Dominican film Sanky Panky, an appearance on Sesame Street, a role as Armando in Furious 7, and the voice of Early Bird in The Angry Birds Movie. The 2021 documentary Romeo Santos: King of Bachata explored the history of bachata alongside his career. In 2025, he released the collaborative album Better Late Than Never with Prince Royce.

Santos is associated with the urban bachata movement, which modernized the Dominican genre for wider audiences. With Aventura, he helped blend traditional bachata with contemporary R&B, hip-hop, pop, reggae, and rock. As a solo artist, he developed a more romantic style combining bachata, pop, and contemporary R&B.

He has identified Anthony Santos and Juan Luis Guerra as important influences within bachata. Other artists associated with his musical influences include Shakira, Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony, Héctor Lavoe, Celia Cruz, Juan Gabriel, José José, and Julio Iglesias. His collaborations with artists such as Usher, Drake, and Justin Timberlake helped connect bachata with audiences beyond its traditional Latin music base.
